THE FOREIGN SECRETARY MEETS WITH THE MINISTER FOR EUROPEAN AFFAIRS AND FOREIGN TRADE OF FINLAND AND THE FOREIGN MINISTER OF ESTONIA

Foreign Secretary José Antonio Meade met today in the Foreign Ministry with Alexander Stubb, the Finnish Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade, and Urmas Paet, the Foreign Minister of Estonia.

The two ministers are leading delegations of Finnish and Estonian businessmen interested in increasing trade and investment with Mexico.

Both expressed their interest in strengthening the political dialogue with Mexico, saying that our country offered a stable economic environment and good opportunities for trade and investment.

During the meeting with Minister Stubb, Foreign Secretary Meade thanked him for the Finnish government’s invitation to President Peña Nieto to visit Finland. Both officials said their countries were ready to further strengthen cooperation in, among other areas, forestry and water resources technology.

In the meeting with the Minister Paet, the possibility of strengthening cooperation in digital government and information technologies was discussed. The Mexican and Estonian officials welcomed the signing of a Cooperation Agreement between the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment and Technology (COMCE) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Estonia.

They suggested sending a Mexican trade mission to Estonia, in response to the visit made by an Estonian business delegation to Mexico to participate in a business forum organized by the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID) in the Foreign Ministry.

After the meetings, Foreign Secretary Meade hosted a luncheon in honor of the distinguished visitors.
