Naturalization Certificate (for direct descendents of Mexican citizens)
This document is issued to foreign citizens who can demonstrate that they are direct descendents of a Mexican by birth and can also demonstrate that they have been living in Mexico for the two years immediately prior to the date of their application with an FM2 visa (booklet or photo i.d. card) and an immigration status of “inmigrante” (immigrant) or “inmigrado” (immigrated). DNN-3 application form. This form must be typed or printed by hand, legibly and in black ink.
In addition:
a).- The original and two copies of all of the pages of your valid immigration document that was issued by the Ministry of the Interior (Segob) and that demonstrates your residence in Mexico for the two years immediately prior to the date of your application. Your immigration documento must be valid for at least 6 months more at the time your application is submitted.
b).- A sworn statement, signed by the applicant, that his/her arrivals and departures to and from Mexico for the last two years are correct.
c).- The original and two photocopies of your foreign passport or, if applicable, of a document proving your identity and your travel documents.
d).- A certified copy of the birth certificate of the Mexican citizen from whom you are directly descended issued by the Mexican civil register office or a Mexican consular office.
e).- A passport-sized color photograph (4.5 x 3.5 cm) taken within the past thirty days, full face, white background, no glasses, no headgear.A recent color photograph, passport size, full face, with a white background.
f).- Proof of payment of the corresponding fee.

How to pay the fee
NB: In compliance with Article 19 (part III) of the Law of Nationality, those interested in obtaining Mexican nationality through naturalization must take a test on his/her general knowledge of Mexican history and culture. The recommended bibliography is the book “Nueva Historia Mínima de México” (abridged version), published by El Colegio de México. Alternatively, a study guide can be downloaded from the following link: Guía de Estudio. The study guide is valid until April 2009.
